On Pachamama Day (Mother Earth Day), celebrated on 1 August, I prepared a soul-infused Haywarikuy, a sacred offering of gratitude to Mother Earth for all the fruits I have received, for her eternal, loving embrace and sustenance, and as a prayer for her continued blessings – for my path, and for the world.
The offering naturally took the shape of a heart, an expression formed through my hands, loud prayers and breath, a ceremonial ritual to honor her: the Giver of Life.
Mosoq Chakuy Pachamama Raymi All School Ceremony
In that evening, I had the privilege of celebrating Pachamama Day in a moving and beautiful Mosoq Chakuy Ceremony with students, faculty, and Paqos from Hatun Q’eros and Ausangate, as part of our ongoing journey at Teqse Muyu Paqo Yachay Wasi (Global Paqo School – School of Pachamama).
In this ceremony we renew our vows to Pachamama, which is a way to renew our power. We thank Pachamama, the Apus (the Mountain Lords) and Ñust’as (the healing forces of nature) for their magnificent healing powers and request renewed living energy to help us serve our communities for the year to come.
Together, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to Pachamama:— to walk in service of her, and of Life itself,
— to walk our path as a healer
— to cultivate harmony and balance within ourselves and in the ecosystems we touch,
— and to carry this ancient, living wisdom into the spaces where we live, work, and belong.
It is a deep blessing to be part of a global community to receive and carry this millennial wisdom,
that nurtures the expansion of the heart and transformation from within, that keep us rooted in respect for all living beings, and allows it to ripple outward with reverence and care to all areas of society.
A closing reflection on Earth-and Life conscious leadership
In times of imbalance, ancient wisdom reminds us: leadership begins with reverence for us individually and for all.
How we relate to ourselves and the Earth shapes how we relate to everything else. Honoring Pachamama is not a ritual of the past, it’s a radical act of remembering that can transform how we live, lead, and steward the future.
Imagine, if we brought this consciousness into our institutions, systems, and daily choices?
Let’s honor Pachamama, Gaia, Living Earth, Mother Earth – in the way we live, lead, choose and care for our world.
May we continue to learn to consciously walk in beauty, and in sacred reciprocity with her.
